It has been a long wait, but we have 4 new styles now available for Pre-Order which we expect to begin shipping by early next week if not sooner! First up is the 6th installation of Burner series of Tees by Izze. The Burner Series returns to it’s roots with more traditional and classical chunky letter style. However, don’t let the friendly look fool you: There’s still plenty of well thought out connections, arrows, and bits to create motion and keep your eyes and mind intrigued!
The next style is the “W Banger” by The Motive. The Motive is a West Coast hand style specialist and has been killing the game for the last few years. For this Tee he created a full “Wild Style Technicians” script for the front and a WST for the back in his signature style. We took the raw Wildstyle Technicians tag and added a little glow, drips, and splatters to add some color and texture. The back features a matching WST tag! Fresh for 2014…
The next two styles aren’t entirely new: The Can Dance Blues is a re-print of our Can Dance Tee by Zodak 1. The first run of this print were done in haste and did not turn out as well as it should have and it did not do the design justice so we’re re-doing it to get it right! We asked our Facebook and Instagram followers for feedback on print colors and they voted for a Blue print this time. Limited quantities available on these so if you want one act quickly.
And last but not least, we are adding the Green Hand Tee by Serval ATT 7$. The first incarnation of this print did well but it was primarily available in Black with a Grey Print. To spice things up we’ve chosen a bright Aqua Green. This choice was inspired by old classic Rustoleum Color Cascade Green. Now available for pre-order on White or Black tees in limited quantities.
Unique, Sake, and myself planned a little paint date a couple of weeks back which we scheduled for the Monday, March 10th. Since we wanted to keep iy simple, quick and inexpensive we decided to roll with solid black fills. None of us came prepared with outlines so we all free style’d our pieces which actually worked out fairly well. This was all of our first time outlining with Sugar Artist Acrylic and it worked just about as well as any paint I’ve ever used. I personally think Ironlak knocked it out of the park with this new brand.
Great time as always painting with good friends. I’m personally pretty satisfied with the results as well my personal progress in my ability to pull off relatively decent work without a sketch or blueprint. In the past this was a recipe for disaster for me… proving we are all students of the game until the very end.
In honor of this new production we are offering 20% off through Sunday, March 16th on your entire purchase at www.wildstyletechnicians.com with coupon code: FRESHPAINT14
I was contacted by Menas on Instagram a few weeks back and he let me know that he was coming to San Diego soon and wanted to hook up for a painting session. I had to blow off work for a day in order to make it happen but since he came all the way out here I figured it was the least I could do to show him some hospitality. Having no unpainted sketches with which to paint, I had to resort to a freestyle piece. I’m beginning to enjoy painting without an outline or sketch as sometimes getting a sketch accurately represented on a wall can be challenging and time consuming. This method, for myself is more enjoyable due to less pressure and the ability to improvise.
Big ups to Menas for coming through, inviting me out, and coming up with the Coast to Coast theme for the production. Nice painting with you.
I took a little road trip this past weekend to paint with Ebik and Strae at the Venice Beach Art Walls. I have been wanting to paint there for some time so I was happy to receive the invite. We arrived at the wall around 1PM and thankfully there was still space so we went straight to work. About 4 relaxing hours later we were putting on the finishing touches and trying to get good flicks with our phones. Definitely a very different experience painting on the beach with a fresh ocean breeze but its something I could definitely get used to. Great day painting with good people. I’ll be back soon.
I am honored to be teaching a new Graffiti course at the Art Academy of San Diego beginning on January 11th. The beginning course runs for 7 weeks with an option to attend a second 7 week intermediate course. My initial plans are to have a heavy emphasis on lettering development, sketch and black book work followed by a few weeks of spray paint work and exercises with hands-on instruction. Some of the areas I plan on covering include: History, Terminology, Styles, Basic Styles, Bar Letters, Black Book Work, Hand Styles, Color Theory and the proper Use of Tools which all ultimately lead to the students being able to create their own styles and pieces.
I have taught and helped many aspiring artists in my 28 years as a Graffiti Writer. While many are able to grasp and execute the basic and relatively mechanical lettering concepts I instruct, only a handful have utilized the system as it should be used: as a stepping stool to creating more advanced and organic letter styles. People often say “you have to know the rules before you can break them”. Metaphorically speaking, I teach “the rules” in the hopes that one day you know them well enough that you can break them and have it go unnoticed.
Here are some photos from last weekend’s Style-A-Thon 2013 at Writerz Blok. Thank you to Ironlak for flying out Jurne as our special guest and for supplying paint and some goodies for the participating artists! The DJ’s, MC’s, and B-Boys did their thing throughout the day and kept the crowd entertained while the artists worked on their pieces. Overall, it was a great event and we’re glad to be able to enjoy the day and produce new works with great friends and artists. Once again, a very special thank you goes out to Jurne and Ironlak for helping to arrange for his trip out on short notice!
WST is honored to have 5 Members as Official Invitees to Style-A-Thon 2013 (Izzy, Zone, Daze, Sake, and Arest) taking place at Writerz Blok on November 23rd. The All Ages Event runs from 1-7 and in addition to most of the area’s best graffiti artists also features DJ’s, Live Performances, B-Boy Battles, Hip Hop Vendors and a Chalk Art Wall and a Jumper for the children. Will definitely be a great time for everyone involved and in attendance. We definitely recommend you try to make it out if you are in the area!
